" The old Monastery" Rethymnon-Gianoudi village
As its name hints, it is built on the grounds of a 16th century monastery and the church of these origins sits next to it.
The spacious suites (35 - 80 sqm each) are named by the Cretan and Greek Mythology. Each one is differently decorated and furnished.
An old olive press still sits in the courtyard, cleverly acting also dining area. There are independant terraces, courtyards and patios for each studio thus allowing time for personal recollection.
CITY OF RETHYMNON
The town still maintains its medieval aristocratic appearance, with its buildings dating from the 16th century, arched doorways, stone staircases, Byzantine and Hellenic-Roman remains, small Venetian harbor and narrow streets.
The Venetian Loggia today houses the information office of the ministry of culture. Throughout the year various activities are organized which draw a large crowd. The Wine Festival is held there annually at the beginning of July. It has a Venetian castle called the Fortetza which is the one of the biggest and best standing castles in Crete.
